What are Jobs Victoria Mentor Services?

Jobs Victoria Mentors help people to become work ready, find a job that suits them and support them in their role for the first six months.

As a Jobs Victoria Partner, we assist job seekers in getting job-ready through mentoring, training and development and work closely with local employers to identify exactly the types of skills and experience that they are looking for.

The Jobs Victoria Fund provides wage subsidies of up to $20,000 to help businesses employ new staff, with a focus on groups of jobseekers most affected by the economic impacts of the pandemic.

Are you eligible?

You are eligible for Jobs Victoria Mentor services if you:

  • have been unemployed for more than six months, or
  • are unemployed and at risk of long-term unemployment due to challenges when seeking employment, and you are not receiving enough support through other services.

Challenges you may be having looking for work may include, but are not limited to:

  • not completed secondary education
  • lack of post-school qualifications
  • little or no local work experience
  • low English language proficiency
  • low literacy (reading/writing)
  • lack of digital literacy
  • lack of knowledge of job search techniques/processes
  • limited social and professional networks that can assist job seeking
  • personal circumstances that make it harder for you to find or hold down a job such as experience of family violence, unstable housing, homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependence
  • low confidence and self-esteem.

To be eligible you must be resident in Victoria, and either:

  • an Australian citizen
  • a permanent resident or
  • a temporary resident under Australia’s refugee and humanitarian program who hold visas with work entitlements.

This program is supported by Jobs Victoria. Jobs Victoria supports people looking for work and connects employers with the staff they need in person, online, and on the phone.

Getting the right job for you

There is something out there, and there are always people who are ready to help you.
I'm not used to having normal healthy support, it's always been support with motive, but it's actually really healthy support. To know that I'm supported in that way and that I'm not just another number, it's a really nice feeling!
