Justin’s dedication to building a career on Sydney Harbour has seen him recognised as a finalist for Achiever of the Year at the 2025 NESA Awards. His story is one of finding purpose through meaningful work and turning opportunity into a new way forward.
When Justin connected with Asuria through Workforce Australia, he was looking for more than just a job. He wanted structure, a sense of belonging and work that could support his wellbeing. Together with his Employment Consultant, he explored opportunities in the maritime industry and found a path that matched his strengths and interests.
Justin enrolled in the Certificate I in Maritime Operations, delivered by TAFE NSW in partnership with Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation and supported by Asuria. Over three intensive weeks, he learned everything from emergency procedures to vessel maintenance. For Justin, this was more than training. It was proof that he could commit, achieve and build confidence in himself again.
In October 2024, Justin began his new career with Fantasea Cruises (NRMA) as a General-Purpose Host and Deck Hand. He quickly became known for his reliability, professionalism and strong work ethic. He also brought something extra to the role, sharing his culture and stories with passengers while working on Sydney Harbour.
The change has been life-altering. Justin now has stability, financial independence and the chance to plan for his future. He is already working towards becoming a coxswain and eventually a skipper. Alongside his personal growth, he has started mentoring new trainees in the Tribal Warrior program, proving that success can inspire others to follow.
