Asuria employer partners and participants victorious at the 2024 Disability Employment Australia Awards

4 minute read

Asuria employer partner, NRMA Marine, and Asuria Disability Employment Services (DES) participant, Kim Barrett, were both crowned winners at last night’s (Wednesday 12th June) Disability Employment Australia Awards, celebrating the success of employers, participants, and employment service providers in helping ever-increasing numbers of people with disability to achieve meaningful, fairly paid employment.

Named as winner of the Prime Super Employer Award - recognising an organisation that has exemplified an outstanding commitment to the inclusion of people with disability in rewarding, open and ongoing employment -- as a proud member of the Australian Disability Network, NRMA Marine was recognised for achievements including a partnership with Asuria to recruit people with disability for their call centre and customer service positions (providing upskilling and mental health support) along with 1-2-1 coaching and flexible work arrangements.

Winner of the genU Training Participant Award, Asuria Disability Employment Services (DES) participant, Kim Barrett, was recognised by the jury for her extraordinary pathway to employment after the tragic loss of her sever-year-old son which left her suffering from extreme depression and anxiety, only to reach her current position as a personal care worker with Australian Unity.

Commenting on receiving the award, Kim says: "Asuria and my Mentor Sharnie changed my life in so many ways that I would never have thought possible. There were many times that I thought I couldn't do it and would have a bad day and Sharnie would pick me back up again and put me back together. Over time this gave me more and more confidence to stand on my own two feet. Sharnie's genuine care and guidance made all the difference."

Nicole Grainger-Marsh, Asuria CEO, Australia, says of the recipients of this year’s awards: “We couldn’t be prouder to have worked with and alongside individuals and organisations like Kim and NRMA Marine. Providing people with disability every opportunity to find a fitting place in the workforce is not just a responsibility of the team here at Asuria, it’s a passion, so to share in the successes of both Kim and NRMA Marine is incredibly heartwarming.”
