Skill Set Snapshot

Entry into Care Roles Skill Set enables you to start your career in roles such as an Aged Care Worker, Extended Care Assistant (ECA). Home and Community Care Worker, Personal Care Worker (PCA), Individual Support Worker, or a Residential Support Worker. These roles are in demand in residential facilities, community health services and private home care and disability organisations across Tasmania.

This skill set introduces care/support work and provides the skills and knowledge for people who may want to go onto further study for example:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability, or Home and Community)

  • Certificate IV in Ageing Support

  • Certificate IV in Disability

  • Diploma of Community Services

  • Diploma of Nursing

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. 

*While there are no pre-requisite for this course, participants must take the language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) assessment. This will help us identify areas where you might need additional support during your studies. 

Delivery

The training program is delivered with comprehensive trainer support to provide a rich and engaging learning experience.

The course is delivered face-to-face over 3 days.

  • HLTINF006 – Apply basic principles and practices of infection and prevention control

  • HLTWHS002 – Follow safe work practices for direct client care

  • CHCCCS015 – Provide individualised support

What you need before starting the course

To undertake this course, you will need:

  • A computer with internet access and a web browser.
  • A regular access to a reliable internet connection and an email address.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader and/or Adobe Flash Player.
  • A mobile device (e.g. Mobile phone) capable of recording short videos at your workplace with a supervisor.
  • To begin this course, you will need a USI. For more information on USI, go to: www.usi.gov.au It is a government requirement that participants undertaking Nationally Recognised Training in Australia have a unique student identifier (USI). 

Course Cost

  • Government funding may be available for eligible participants in Tasmania.  
  • If you are not eligible for government funding, the course can be delivered as a Fee for Service program across all States. We can organise a payment plan with you to cover the cost of the course.
