Team Maroubra wins NESA Award for work with Indigenous Australians

2 minute read

We are delighted to announce that Malcolm Quigg (pictured centre) and his team at PeoplePlus Maroubra has taken out the Innovation in Indigenous Employment Award at the National Employment Services Association (NESA) Awards for Excellence gala held in Brisbane.

This achievement, which recognises employment services professionals and organisations who find work for Indigenous Australians, caps off a tremendous year for the team which is led by Branch Manager, Malcolm Quigg.

Under his leadership since 2015, Malcolm works day to day with job seekers out of the Maroubra site and has been instrumental in championing various employment campaigns, partnerships, and initiatives which have resulted in successful outcomes for job seekers across Sydney.

He has managed our Maroubra site, which provides services for the jobactive program with high distinction and currently holds the highest possible site rating of 5 stars.

Malcolm has also successfully established working relationships with our proud community partners which have combined innovative methods of combining skills, education, and training for participants.

Earlier this year, we teamed up with our friends at Tribal Warrior and Babana Aboriginal Men’s Group to lead the East Coast Passage & Maritime Program, which saw 10 young men set sail along the East Coast of Australia to complete a Certificate I and Certificate II in Maritime Operations.

As result of the training and experience these men acquired from the program, three of these participants have already begun full-time work with All Occasions Cruises with three more soon to be placed by the Sydney Port Authority.  We are confident that all participants from this program will achieve full-time employment once qualified.

PeoplePlus Executive Chairman, Con Kittos was one of the first to congratulate Malcolm for this achievement on the night and believes that his dedication and passion to the job makes him a very popular figure at PeoplePlus.

"If you know Mal, you know how he is a man of dedication and integrity and that he is second to none when it comes to the work he does with our Indigenous Brothers and Sisters.

Mal is a very worthy recipient and I am honoured to call him a colleague," Mr Kittos said.

The National Employment Services Association Innovation in Indigenous Employment Award is sponsored by the Australian Government Department of Jobs and Small Business.

From the team at PeoplePlus Australia, we thank NESA for your recognition of our services and passion for working with Indigenous Australians into employment and congratulations to Malcolm and our team in Maroubra.
